this entry is really just to see if i set this up right so I guess I can talk about music I like.
Worry - Jeff Rosenstock
Jeff Rosenstock has been a powerhouse in punk for the last almost 30 years, putting out too many albums to list with too many bands to list. Out of everything he has released I believe his 2016 release "Worry" is his magnum opus.
Though not his longest project clocking in at 37 minutes, it packs a lot into it. covering themes of losing friends, digging into the concept of love, and gentrification just to name a few.
All of this is wrapped in a neat little power pop bow with some pop punk and ska flair on top. The structuring of this album is one of its biggest focal points, as the back half of the project pulls an Abbey Road and is one big medley.
The medley is one of the album's biggest pro's, spanning from the 9th track "Blast Damage Days" and reaching another 8 songs through until the end of the album. I've heard it called "The Abbey Road of Punk" and its not hard to see why.
Specifically the last 4 songs are where the album hits its highest point for me. The act as a massive build up for the end of "Perfect Sound Whatever" where it all just explodes and fizzles out. The line "Perfect always takes so long because it don't exist" followed by the chanting of "It doesn't exist!" is an amazing point to end on for this album because it is a reminder that if you spend your whole life trying to achieve a perfect life you'll be left alone at the end. With every good feeling there is a bad one that goes along with it (the line "love is worry" comes up a few times in this album.) It's a reminder that it's ok to feel bad sometimes.
